Welcome to Expat Writers
The aim of this group is to provide support and resources for writers who are living abroad and facing additional challenges in their quest to get those articles, that book or manuscript published and make a living from their writing. Drawing on the experience of other expat writers could be the inspiration you are looking for.
At the best of times, writers struggle. They struggle with motivation, where to pitch ideas to, rejections, building up relationships with agents, editors or publishers, juggling the commitments that compete for their time, work space, inspiration.... you get the picture.
Add to that living outside your native land, moving from country to country and the plot thickens for sure. You suddenly realise how much easier it would have been to be a writer back 'home'.
Here are some of the challenges facing an expat writer:
- - Finding local publications to write for in a country with a foreign language
- - Building up new networks in a new location
- - Creating and maintaining an online business presence
- - Finding a writer's group locally
- - Attending writing courses with 'real people'
